Author’s mini-bio: Patricia Parisi is a communications professional with 20 or so years’ experience in journalism as writer, reporter, producer and educator in various media — newspaper, magazine, radio, television and web, as well as media and communications management. Patti has also worked in corporate social/environmental responsibility.
In 2000, along with executive chef Andrew Spurgin and marine scientist and educator Carl Rebstock (who is also a US Army Colonel), she co-founded Passionfish www.passionfish.org (home of Ocean Commotion), a pioneering nonprofit that looks at ocean sustainability issues from a journalistic perspective, unrestrained by special interests. It is funded by contributions from people devoted to ocean and seafood sustainability as well as by Passionfish’s executive team that also now includes Gerard Viverito, executive chef and educator at the Culinary Institute of America.
Her mission with Passionfish is to share the excitement of how people across the world are working to secure a healthy food supply, one that enhances and promotes the well-being of humanity while safeguarding our environment.
She has an MA in journalism and a BA in anthropology (human ecology). Her passions include contemporary dance, fitness, swimming, windsurfing, telemark skiing, traveling and cooking.
